Steps To Obtain A Canada Work Permit for A Caregiver

Steps To Obtain A Canada Work Permit for A Caregiver Canada launched two new pilot programs for caregivers that facilitate the hiring of international caregivers. These are:

  • Home Child Care Provider Pilot
  • Home Support Worker Pilot

Both pilots allow caregivers with a pathway to permanent residence if they have two years of eligible Canadian work experience. The pilots also enable the caregiver to bring family members with them to study or work while they are gathering their work experience.

Hiring Foreign Caregivers

Employers outside Quebec willing to hire a caregiver from overseas should use the above two pilots. This replaces the previous Temporary Foreign Worker Program system.

Hiring A Caregiver Who Is Already In Canada

If you want to hire an international caregiver who is already living or working in Canada, use the Temporary Foreign Worker Program. You may also utilize the Live-In Caregiver Program if:

The caregiver you want to hire has a Live-in Caregiver Program work permit and is looking for a new employer, and you have an approved LMIA that indicates the caregiver has agreed to live in your home.

Hiring A Caregiver In Quebec

To hire a foreign caregiver in Quebec, apply for an LMIA through the Temporary Foreign Worker Program.

Find A Caregiver

To hire a foreign caregiver, you need to find a candidate either from other countries or in Canada and give them a job offer. They can then use the job offer to apply through one of the pilots.

Candidate Requirements For Caregiver Pilots

  • Job offer.
  • CLB 5 language level.
  • One year of Canadian post-secondary education or foreign equivalent.

After You Make The Offer Of Employment

After getting the job offer, the caregiver will submit two applications together:

  • An application for permanent residence through the Home Child Care Provider or Home Support Worker pilot.
  • An application for a work permit

Candidates who meet PR requirements will get a work permit valid for three years that will enable them to work for any employer in the specific occupation.
